Louisville women’s basketball 2023-24 schedule: See Jeff Walz’s path
Louisville women’s basketball will have a new look next season. And the fresh faces will be challenged early in U of L’s non-conference schedule.
A year after making the Elite Eight for the fifth straight time, the Cardinals will have no active true freshmen and will likely start three transfer players when the 2023-24 campaign begins. The team will begin the season at Cincinnati, as part of a home-and-home series, and take on Ole Miss on Nov. 29 in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge. U of L opened last season with an 87-68 win over the Bearcats then downed the Rebels 72-62 during the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament.
The Cardinals will also play UConn, Kentucky, DePaul and Washington, and will participate in the Van Chancellor Classic in Houston during the Thanksgiving break.
“We’ve got some pretty good games and we’ll find out how quick we’re gonna gel,” U of L head coach Jeff Walz said.

The Cardinals will get a glimpse of the team’s on-the-court chemistry this summer while participating in the GLOBL Jam July 7-16 in Toronto, Canada, before beginning the NCAA women’s basketball season fourth months later.
Louisville lost 11 total players to either graduation or the transfer portal. The Cardinals found relief in the NCAA transfer portal, signing six players to make up for the lost production of star guard Hailey Van Lith, who is now at LSU, and others.
Despite the turnover, Louisville does return Olivia Cochran, who was last year’s leading rebounder and is expected to be a bigger part of the offense next season; Nyla Harris, who became a starter during the last eight games of the regular season; and Merissah Russell, who averaged 21.3 minutes per game during the NCAA tournament.
