Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs squad continues to take shape ahead of his maiden Premier League campaign, with a flurry of transfer activity – and a desperate bid to keep superstar Harry Kane.

Tottenham has already secured deals for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and their top target, £40 million ($A76m) midfielder James Maddison from Leicester, and have turned Dejan Kulusevski’s loan deal permanent.

They are now closing in on a deal for Israel winger Manor Solomon. Fabrizio Romano reports a five-year contract has been struck for the 23-year-old forward, who scored five times in 24 loan appearances at Fulham.

Fulham reportedly were keen on turning his deal permanent, but the Australian manager looks set to beat out their interest and secure the talented youngster.

Meanwhile, Spurs are also reportedly on the brink of landing a new defender in Micky van de Ven, a 22-year-old versatile back who featured in all-but-one Bundesliga match for Wolfsburg last season. Liverpol were also closely linked to the player, but Tottenham look set to win the race with a £30m ($A57m) bid for the forceful defender.

Tottenham have also been heavily linked to another defender in Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba, but the 24-year-old is far more expensive at £50m and Spurs are reportedly unlikely to afford both players.

Far more likely is a deal for Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet. He spent last year on loan at Spurs, and Barcelona president Joan Laporta said this week a permanent transfer is probable.

Laporta said: “I think that with Tottenham we will reach an agreement for Lenglet. This almost never goes fast. It depends on the other party.”

A deal could reportedly cost as little as £5 million.

But the biggest transfer saga for Tottenham this window is the fate of England captain and Spurs talisman Harry Kane.

The Guardian reported today that Spurs have handed a huge contract offer to Kane “that would significantly improve his £200,000-a-week terms.”

Spurs remain desperate to keep their standout striker, who has 12 months remaining on his current contract and is being targeted by a host of European giants, including Bayern Munich who have already had a €70m bid rejected.

Kane is reportedly continuing to mull his future and the Guardian reports he will ‘certainly’ not sign the new deal “while the transfer window remains open.”

Kane is still on holidays and has not yet met with Ange Postecoglou, who will try his utmost to convince the soon-to-be 30-year-old to remain in North London.

But Kane’s decision to not extend his contract during the off-season means Spurs and Postecoglou will spend the next couple of months in limbo – or force them to sell their star man before losing him next season on a free transfer.
