Simone Biles makes first U.S. national team camp appearance since Tokyo 2020

Four-time Olympic gold medallist Simone Biles‘ return to gymnastics continues to take shape.

The American superstar is participating in her first U.S. national team camp since winning team silver and balance beam bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games this week.

Biles, who recently said on social media that she was, “Excited to get back out on the competition floor!” after USA Gymnastics announced she had registered for August’s U.S. Classic, posted an Instagram story Sunday (9 July) with World Champions Centre teammate Zoe Miller that read, “Back at camp.”

The U.S. camp, which runs through 12 July at Stars Gymnastics in Katy, Texas, will give the five-time world all-around champion the opportunity to work with national staff and recieve feedback from internationally rated judges prior to her 5 August debut.

That feedback could be helpful for the 26-year-old who has not competed under new rules adopted by the International Gymnastics Federation following the Tokyo Games that will require Biles to make modifications to her previous routines.

Fellow Olympic all-around gold medallist Sunisa Lee is also expected to compete at the U.S. Classic, according to USA Gymnastics, but her participation at the camp is currently unknown as the federation has yet to release a list of attendees and Lee has yet to speak publicly about her return to competition or national camps.
