“I don’t think she’s great for Women’s Tennis”: Bold call from Arias surrounding
Former world number five America’s Jimmy Arias believes that
current women’s world number Iga Swiatek’s lack of ‘personality’ is not good
for the sport.
The 22-year-old is the leading player in the women’s singles
category, despite being still very young.
Arias was quoted in a report where he stated that he would
like to see more personality from Swiatek.
“From my standpoint, I don’t think she’s been great for
women’s tennis,” he said. “Because she wears her hat so low that you can’t even
see her face or her eyes during a match, so you don’t get a connection as much
as you could. So, I don’t mind her getting angry in some ways, but I want to
see her personality.”
Swiatek is coming on the back of a rather disappointing time in
Wimbledon 2023 where she was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Ukraine’s tennis
star Elina Svitolina with a score of 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
Despite that result, Swiatek will be slightly pleased with
her performance in the third Grand Slam of the year as it was her best outing
in London.
The Warsaw-born is currently taking part in a tournament in
her home town where she is currently facing Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer for a
spot in the final.
