Lowe, 50, was born in Michigan. He was drafted in the eighth round of the 1991 Major League Baseball draft by the Seattle Mariners.
He would go on to play for seven teams, including the Red Sox, whose spring training headquarters are in Fort Myers.
Lowe was a member of the Red Sox 2004 World Championship team. He was the winning pitcher in the final game of all three postseason series that year — the American League Division Series against the Anaheim Angels, the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees, and the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Another career highlight came in 2002 when he no-hit the Tampa Bay Rays (known at the time as the Devil Rays) at Fenway Park in April.
