Jake Paul Calls Out Canelo Álvarez for Boxing Fight Because of Logan vs.

Jake Paul made his case for a big-money encounter with undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez on Monday.

Paul said his older brother, Logan, fought Floyd Mayweather, so he’s looking for his own opportunity to step inside the ring against one of the sport’s best.

Álvarez is coming off a decisive unanimous decision victory over Jermell Charlo on Saturday. Shortly after the fight, Bleacher Report’s Lyle Fitzsimmons floated Paul as one of his logical opponents next, citing the broad appeal that matchup would have.

The 33-year-old might have other plans based on his interview in the ring with Showtime Sports’ Jm Gray. He expressed supreme confidence in his own abilities based on how he dispatched Charlo.

That’s why, for Paul, drawing a comparison to Mayweather’s encounter with his brother doesn’t really work.

Mayweather has had one official fight since 2015, which came against a UFC star (Conor McGregor) making his boxing debut. The 46-year-old has been open about his desire to focus on exhibitions that are highly lucrative and put him in much less physical danger.

Opposing Logan Paul in June 2021 aligned with Mayweather’s priorities at this stage of his career.

Álvarez, on the other hand, is at the peak of his powers or close to it. You can’t help but wonder how his 2013 encounter with Mayweather would’ve unfolded if he had been a little more seasoned.

Financially a date with Paul is a sure thing. It would undoubtedly be one of Canelo’s biggest paydays ever and perhaps the biggest. There’s no guarantee that money is sitting there in another year or two, either. Paul may have moved on to a new endeavor, or his popularity could wane slightly.

On sporting terms, this is far from the most attractive option on the table for Álvarez.
