Latest Tottenham injury news as eight miss Crystal Palace with Destiny Udogie

Tottenham Hotspur could stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points today when they make the short trip across the capital to face Crystal Palace.

“There is a real good reason no manager will talk about winning a title in October or November because we know there’s a long way to go,” Ange Postecoglou said this week when asked about the title race. “We don’t sort of talk in those terms with the players.

“My main information flow is about how can we keep improving, how can we tackle the challenge of being in the most competitive league in the world on a weekly basis. That’s the real challenge for us.

“Particularly at our stage of development is to understand that irrespective of what is happening outside and noise from outside, every game is a really hard one for us at the moment in where we are as a team.

“We need to be fully focused on that and from my perspective the lads have been really good at just keeping their eyes firmly on what’s next and what’s next for us is a tough game for us tomorrow night.”

The lack of European football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium means Postecoglou’s squad come into tonight’s trip to Selhurst Park fresh after Monday’s win over Fulham. Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon are out but there was good news regarding Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie.

Both players were forced off early in the second half against Fulham, raising concerns over their participation against Palace. However, Postecoglou was on hand to provide a positive update. “The two main ones from the other night are Pape and Destiny. Pape is fine, he bounced back sort of 24 hours after the game. He had a bit of an illness but has trained well.

“Destiny we are still going to assess. Obviously it is a short turnaround from the other night. We’ll have a look today, see how things go and make a decision after that. Everyone else has come through fine and is available.”

Attacker Brennan Johnson will also be available having featured in the second half on Monday night. The Wales international has only made three appearances for Spurs since signing from Nottingham Forest, though he will be hoping to provide competition for the attackers now.

Ben Davies also missed the game on Monday but is set to be fit for selection as well, bolstering some of the defensive options. “Yeah he is fine. He got a knock the day before training,” the manager said when asked what had ruled him out of the London derby earlier this week.

Rodrigo Bentancur continues his recovery, with Postecoglou insisting the Uruguayan will not be rushed. “We’ll be careful with him,” the manager explained before the Fulham game.
