It’s Possible Cody Bellinger is Visiting Toronto Right Now

We knew that the Toronto Blue Jays, who are in a pretty extreme win-right-now moment, would move on to other offensive pursuits after missing out on Shohei Ohtani. We didn’t necessarily know it would be IMMMMMMEDIATE and Cody Bellinger.

But it was and it is. Probably:

Now, could that be a total coincidence? Of course. Could the couple not even be in Toronto right now, and she was simply posting a photo she liked of the city? Or maybe she’s there for unrelated reasons? Sure, sure. All possible.

But it seems a touch more likely that she and Bellinger are there in Toronto to talk to the Blue Jays, who could certainly use Bellinger’s lefty bat in their near-term window. It also wouldn’t hurt for this to get out there to the world, you know?

The Cubs obviously have some level of interest in a reunion with Bellinger, 28, after his break-back-out season in 2023. The bat probably doesn’t quite repeat in 2024 at the same level, but he still projects to be a solidly above-average bat, with decent contact and power, while playing good center field and first base defense. The question is whether the Cubs are all that interested in the kind of contract he’s rumored to be seeking, in the $200 to $300 million range over 10+ years. I tend to think they are not, and if that’s where Toronto – or San Francisco – is willing to go, it’ll be time for a farewell.

We’ll see if some actually Blue-Jays-Bellinger smoke emanates from this situation, or if it is just another bit of internet sleuthing gone wrong. Maybe the picture is actually from Robert Herjavec.
