Alex Bowman Shuts Down Speculation Surrounding HMS’ Hand Behind Harsh Dirt

After being benched for almost seven months due to a broken back, Alex Bowman is all set to bounce back. He is ready to turn over a new leaf and chase victories after a tough season. Interestingly, it’s not just in the Cup races that we will spot him in action in the future. He’s also geared up to join the World of Outlaws series.

Hopping into a dirt car isn’t a new rodeo for the Hendrick Motorsports drivers. However, there’s been some buzz recently that Alex Bowman’s decision to participate in the WoO series after being done with the Cup Series was nudged along by the HMS team. But, setting the record straight, he made it clear that this move was entirely his call.

Alex Bowman is in no hurry to chase his dreams in the World of Outlaws series

Not long ago, Alex Bowman spilled the beans on SiriusXM Radio about his secret wish. Even though he’s fully committed to Hendrick Motorsports and the NASCAR Cup Series, he’s always had a soft spot for the World of Outlaws series. He shared, “I won’t be in a sprint car for the foreseeable future. I would say when I’m done Cup racing… to be honest with you, I would love to do the Outlaw Tour when I’m done Cup racing. But it’s just gonna be something that I push off until I’m at that point in my life where it’s what I want to do, and it’s not going to take away from anything else.”

The confession led some folks to think that the Hendrick Motorsports team might have steered him away from the series, especially since his sprint car race led to a fractured vertebra. But Alex Bowman recently set the record straight, saying, “I think the areas of the country that I’ve never been to and that I want to see, the life on the road, kind of all of it. I want to do it for sure.”

“I’m not like, it’s gonna happen unless there’s a reason it can’t, but yeah, definitely. You know, I hate that I can’t race more dirt stuff, right? But for me, like I think I saw a lot of people think that it was somebody else’s decision. And honestly, regardless of what anybody else said, like, the decision was made before I talked to anybody else.”

Bowman’s journey over the last two seasons has been a bumpy ride. He sat out three races this year due to a back injury from a sprint car race and missed five in 2022 following concussion protocol. Yet, when he’s had the chance to go full throttle in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy, he’s shown his mettle. He snagged a personal best of four race wins in 2021 and landed a career-high sixth in the championship in 2020.
