Boost for Munster as Toulon set to lose France star Charles Ollivon and he may

Charles Ollivon of France

Munster are dealing with their own injury crisis ahead of next week’s daunting trip to the Stade Felix Mayol, but their task will be a little bit easier after Toulon star Charles Ollivon picked up a quad injury.

According to reports, the France flanker looks set to be ruled out for around four weeks, meaning he could miss the Six Nations opener against Ireland in Marseille.

Ollivon had been considered the leading contender to lead Les Bleus in the Six Nations in the absence of Antoine Dupont who will focus on the Sevens team with a view to competing at the Paris Olympics.

In the short term, the loss of Ollivon is a significant blow to his club who are bottom of Pool 3 after losing narrowly to Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints in rounds one or two.

Last year’s Challenge Cup winners know that victory over injury-ravaged Munster can put them in line for a last 16 spot and they’ll still be favourites to get the win given the extent of Munster’s injury crisis.

Graham Rowntree is missing Dave Kilcoyne, Diarmuid Barron, Niall Scannell, Jean Kleyn, Edwin Edogbo and RG Snyman from his tight five, while Oli Jager is a doubt.

Peter O’Mahony is another senior figure likely to miss out for the Irish province who have yet to win a game in the Champions Cup this season.
