2021 Olympics: USWNT full roster, schedule, players to watch

The U.S. women’s national team looks to add another gold medal to its resumé at the Olympics in Toyko with a roster filled with plenty of veteran experience.

Coach Vlatko Andonovski’s Tokyo roster features 11 players who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 17 members of the USWNT’s 2019 World Cup championship team.

Several members of the squad have previous Olympic experience, including forwards Carli Lloyd and Tobin Heath, who made their fourth Olympic team. Defenders Becky Sauerbrunn and Kelley O’Hara as well as forwards Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe return for the third time after playing in the 2012 and 2016 Games. Midfielders Lindsey Horan and Julie Ertz, forward Christen Press, defender Crystal Dunn and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher each have one Olympic appearance.

Team USA has plenty of experience reaching the podium since winning the inaugural gold medal in 1996 in Atlanta. In Sydney, the squad won silver in 2000, followed by three straight golds in Athens, Greece in (2004), Beijing (2008) and London (2012).

In 2016, USWNT was knocked out by Sweden on penalties in the quarterfinals. Sweden spoiled the U.S.’s debut in Tokyo and snapped the team’s 44-game unbeaten streak with a 3-0 result on Wednesday.

But the U.S. bounced back with a 6-1 win over New Zealand on Saturday with goals from Rose Lavelle, Horan, Press and Morgan in addition to two own goals by New Zealand.
