The Nebraska volleyball team has added a player at a position of need with the commitment of middle blocker Leyla Blackwell.

The 6-foot-4 San Diego transfer has one year of eligibility remaining.

After beginning her career at Indiana, the California native earned first-team all-conference honors in each of her three seasons at San Diego, including when it made the NCAA Final Four in 2022 and Blackwell ranked in the top 10 nationally in blocking.

During the 2023 season, Blackwell led San Diego with 113 blocks. She also had 205 kills with a .329 hitting percentage.

Nebraska was looking to add another middle blocker to the roster after Maggie Mendelson transferred to Penn State and previous high school commit Ayden Ames flipped to Texas.

The Huskers return both starters at middle blocker with Andi Jackson and Bekka Allick.
