In its past three matchups, Utah has gone on a 3-0 tear over its Golden State opponents. The 37-point win over Cal last Sunday was good, and the 20-point win over ranked Southern California on Friday was great.

But the biggest ranked upset in school history over No. 2 UCLA… In overtime…That was spectacular.

With 30 offensive and eight defensive boards, Utah became the first team this year to dominate UCLA on the glass (38-35), who currently leads the nation with a +18.2 rebound margin. What’s more, the Bruins had previously held its opponents to 36% shooting but let the Utes run away with 48% from the field, and 46% from three.

The Utah shooters displayed versatility as five different players sunk threes, including Dasia Young’s explosive 4-6 attempts from afar. Young more than doubled her season average of 7.3 PPG with 16 baskets tonight, while also tacking on seven rebounds. Alissa Pili and Maty Wilke also totaled 16 points each, combining for eight rebounds and three steals.

Kennady McQueen was perhaps the biggest threat to UCLA and Lauren Betts, netting a season-high 21 points, nine assists, a block and a steal.

With Jenna Johnson’s triple putting Utah on the board first, the Utes maintained the lead throughout the majority of regulation. Down to the final two minutes, the Bruins went on a 12-point tear to gain a two-point advantage — just their second lead of the night — on the Utes, and Ines Vieira drove in a crucial layup at the three-second mark to force extra time.

With momentum on their side, the Utes ran away with the extra minutes to notch their largest lead of the night in the 94-81 victory. This marked Utah’s biggest upset in program history over a ranked opponent and first overtime win since February 2022.

Ironically when these two teams met last year, the game was a mere second away from overtime when Alissa Pili knocked down a buzzer-beater for the Utah win, 71-69. It’s been a pattern that the Bruins fail to convert down the stretch against the Utes, as they haven’t posted a win against them since before COVID-19.

Opening the season on a 14-game win streak, the No. 2 Bruins just suffered their second loss in just eight days. Thus, the Pac-12 party just got even more chaotic as UCLA falls to 4-2 (15-2 overall) in conference play and the Utes move to 4-3 (13-5).
