Celebrities at Australian Open mens’ final

Enjoying front row seats were Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and partner Jodie Haydon, Tennis Australia Chair Jayne Hrdlicka and legend of the game Rod Laver.

In the row directly behind, Hollywood star Eric Bana and wife Rebecca sat alongside Hugh Jackman’s actor ex Deborra-Lee Furness and The Mentalist star Simon Baker.

But it was a mystery baby-faced tennis fan unassumingly sitting among the star-studded pack who set tongues wagging.

Many thought the young man wedged between Furness and Bana was British internet personality and musician Wilbur Soot.

Others speculated it was Eric and Rebecca Bana’s rarely spotted son Klaus, an emerging filmmaker.

Sources told news.com.au that the young man was actually Josh Dainty, the son of a good friend of Furness. 

It must have been quite a night for Dainty, whose LinkedIn profile describes him as a humble finance graduate from the University of Melbourne.

If the plethora of actors and pollies wasn’t enough to make you a bit star struck, supermodel Elle Macpherson and her musician partner Doyle Bramhall, along with Aussie actor Joel Edgerton were not far from the group.

Actress Ana de Armas, best known for her portrayal of the Bond girl Paloma, was also nearby, and was the surprise guest of the night.

She accompanied the men’s trophy onto Rod Laver Arena alongside former tennis player- turner-commentator Jim Courier.

Models Jessica Gomes and Victoria Lee could also be spotted among the VIP group, as well as swimming legend Ian Thorpe who was with recently retired Mack Horton.

Western Bulldogs star Bailey Smith was also in attendance with partner Gemma Dawkins.

Smith could be seen animatedly chatting to 800m track star Peter Bol.

Crowding out the VIP section was singer Tina Arena, radio star Jackie O Henderson, boxing great Jeff Fenech, socialite Francesca Packer, footy legend Leigh Matthews, actor Rachel Griffiths and TV personality Julia Morris.

Hospitality mogul Chris Lucas and his newly-minted socialite wife Sarah Lew also were there as well as businessmen John Gandel, former Telstra CEO Andy Penn and Eddie McGuire.

The stars all watched Italian young gun Jannik Sinner come back from two sets down against Russian Daniil Medvedev to get his first ever Grand Slam win.

Notably, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was ruthlessly booed by the packed crowd at Rod Laver Arena during the trophy presentation.

Mr Albanese is in the midst of a political firestorm over tax reform after he slashed Labor’s stage 3 tax cuts for higher income earners, redistributing it to workers earning under $150,000.
