Franklin & Marshall men, women fall in college basketball to Johns Hopkins |

In a crucial Centennial Conference men’s basketball game, Franklin & Marshall fell a game off the pace after falling 73-58 Tuesday night to Johns Hopkins at Baltimore.

With the win, the Blue Jays remained in a tie for first place with Gettysburg, which defeated Dickinson 66-53 Tuesday, at 13-2. F&M is a game back; all three are 17-5 overall.

The Diplomats have another big game Saturday against fourth-place Swarthmore (14-8, 11-4) in Lancaster.

The Diplomats were plagued by poor shooting at 31.3% (15-for-48), though they were much better from 3-point range, hitting 43.5% (10-for-23). They were also outrebounded 42-27.

Hopkins shot 47.5% (29-for-61) from the field.

Vakaris Grauslys led F&M with 17 points. Brayden Fagberri had 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Hopkins and Sydney Thybulle had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

After Thybulle hit a jumper to open the scoring at 18:46 of the first half, F&M never led and trailed by as many as 20.

Women

Johns Hopkins 68, Franklin & Marshall 32: At Baltimore, F&M (9-12, 4-12 Centennial Conference) shot just 18% from the field in losing to No. 11 Johns Hopkins (19-2, 15-1).

The Blue Jays jumped to a 9-0 lead before the Diplomats’ Lizzie Neville hit a 3-pointer with 5:24 left in the first quarter. JHU responded with 13 straight points in the following four minutes.

Hope Schreiber led F&M, which was 11-for-61 from the field, with eight points.

Michaela O’Neil had 17 points and six rebounds for Hopkins, which had a 58-26 rebounding advantage.
