AGV Q3 Pro: Sun, Moon, And Rossi

This is how it all started. After a couple of successful years in the Italian championships, Valentino Rossi made his 125cc world championship debut in 1996. To do that in style, he came up with a bespoke helmet design: the SoleLuna. The term means ‘sun and moon’ in Italian–Rossi’s mother tongue–and the helmet design followed the same theme. One side was bright yellow with an orange sun graphic, while the other had a dark base coat with a yellow waxing crescent of the moon.


The ‘SoleLuna’ has been Rossi’s go-to design ever since and the racer even paid homage to the graphic in 2018. It’s a crowd favorite and go-to for VR46 fans as well–so much so that if you Google the term, you’ll find Rossi helmets rather than the actual meaning of the word. Rossi also won his first world championship race with this very graphic, painted on AGV’s then-flagship Q3 Pro helmet.
