And what if BMW is preparing to enter MotoGP? The Bavarian manufacturer has been competing in the World Superbike Championship since 2019 and is heavily investing, as evidenced by the signing of Toprak Razgatlioglu for 2024 and the creation of a testing team with two renowned riders – Bradley Smith and Sylvain Guintoli.

The goal is to win in production-derived motorcycles, but in the future MotoGP could be another destination for BMW. This Wednesday, a management change was announced. Sven Blush is the new director of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, replacing Marc Bongers from June 1st. The structure oversees the official programs in WSBK and the Endurance World Championship.

In the announcement of this change, BMW talks about a ‘strategic realignment and improving the solid foundation for success in motorsport in the future’. It remains to be seen whether this future only involves production-derived motorcycles or also in MotoGP – rumors about a program in the premier class have been growing.

For BMW, it would be a logical debut: for several years, they have been a partner with the official safety car. For Dorna, it would be the possibility, eventually with the new regulations of 2027, to finally replace the factory team slot that Suzuki left when it ended its activities at the end of 2022. In fact, there are two slots in the grid that the championship promoter is reserving for factories, even rejecting a new satellite team from KTM in 2024.
