Hawaii slides to 5 in men’s volleyball rankings

Following a series split against Cal State Northridge, which included its first loss to the Matadors in over six years, the University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team fell from No. 2 to No. 5 in the latest AVCA/NVA National Collegiate MVB Poll released Monday.

Hawaii (18-4, 1-3 Big West Conference) will take on No. 20 UC Santa Barbara in a pair of home matches this week, beginning on Friday.

Hawaii’s series against the Gauchos will be its final set of home regular season matches, although UH will host the Big West men’s volleyball tournament from April 18-20.

Long Beach State (18-1) remained the No. 1 team despite being idle over the weekend.

Additionally, Hawaii outside hitter Louis Sakanoko repeated as the Big West Freshman of the Week after totaling 29 kills against the Matadors.
