MANILA, Philippines — Angel Canino won’t play in La Salle’s game against the University of the Philippines on Thursday in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament due to a right arm injury.

Amid the rumors about her well-being the past few days, Canino still arrived with her team for the game at Mall of Asia Arena but was wearing a sling in her right arm hidden under a La Salle jacket. Her whole arm is heavily wrapped.

According to La Salle courtside reporter Patrice Dabao, Angel Canino sustained the injury from an accident not related to volleyball.

No timeline yet for her recovery.

Canino didn’t warm up for the game and sat beside her coaches in the resumption of the Lady Spikers’ second-round campaign.

The La Salle coaches respectfully declined pregame interviews about her health status prior to the team’s match against UP. The school has yet to give an official update as of posting.

This is the first time Canino, the league’s rookie MVP, will miss a UAAP game after 24 games.

La Salle, which holds a 7-1 record, seeks to clinch at least a playoff for a Final Four berth against UP.

Missing Canino will be a big blow for the Lady Spikers as she led the team in scoring in their first eight games, averaging 16.3 points per match.
