Bill Murray Celebrates with His Son Luke After UConn Wins NCAA Championship

Celebrating UConn’s national championship is just as sweet the second time around for Bill Murray!

The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire star was on hand to watch the team beat Purdue on Monday night and to support his son, Luke, 39, who is an assistant coach with the team.

The two embraced on the court — with the comedian cracking a joke which made his son laugh — following the Huskies’ 75-60 win over the Boilermakers.

The scene was deja vu for the Groundhog Day actor, 73, who also attended last year’s championship game when UConn won the title over San Diego State.

Monday night’s win was the school’s sixth national championship, bringing them even with North Carolina for the third-most titles in NCAA history. Only Kentucky (eight) and UCLA (11) have had more success on the national stage.

The feel-good moment between the Murray men is becoming a spring rite of passage.

Last year, the father of six sons was a frequent fixture in the stands as he took in the team’s march to the title game.

Despite UConn’s domination, the Saturday Night Live alum admitted to getting nervous before games.

“I couldn’t get anything done all day long,” he told The Big East following the Huskies’ win over Gonzaga in the Elite Eight last March. “I was just walking around the hotel room just forgetting everything, toothbrush, phone, watch, couldn’t find anything.”

Bill added, “It was a lot of nerves to get here, but it’s sure fun now. I had a really big smile on my face earlier. My jaw was hurting.”

And he also couldn’t hold back his pride for Luke.

“I’m very proud of this boy, he’s a wonderful kid and he’s worked very hard,” Bill said at the time.

Now in his second season as an assistant on head coach Dan Hurley’s staff, Luke previously worked for Hurley at Wagner and Rhode Island, according to his UConn bio.

Known as a master recruiter, Luke has previously had stints at Louisville, Towson and Xavier.

His own road to the Final Four began back in 2007 when he was the director of basketball operations at Quinnipiac University under current UConn assistant coach Tom Moore.
