Former champions Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka are among the players who were made to wait to start their campaigns Tuesday at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters — but play has begun after persistent rain at the ATP Masters 1000 event.

After a two-hour, 23-minute delay to the start of play, the 2014 titlist Stan Wawrinka has started his first-round clash with 11th seed Alex de Minaur on Court Rainier III.

Matteo Berrettini, fresh from winning his first ATP Tour title since 2022 last week in Marrakech, then takes on Miomir Kecmanovic, before Djokovic makes his first appearance on clay this year in a second-round meeting with Roman Safiullin. The No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Djokovic leads Safiullin 1-0 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series after a 2022 victory in Tel Aviv.

Top 10 stars Alexander Zverev and Hubert Hurkacz are also on Tuesday’s schedule in the Principality. Zverev plays Sebastian Ofner, Hurkacz faces Jack Draper, while French duo Gael Monfils and Arthur Fils are among the other stars in action.
