What are OU football’s transfer portal window priorities?

Oklahoma will have a chance to make more football roster movements when the transfer portal window reopens on Tuesday.

There is a two-week timetable for players to opt to leave their current programs and chase another home.

OU coach Brent Venables would not answer what specific needs his team needs, but he did say that coaches are prepared for the next wave.

“You’ve just got to stay ready,” Venables said when asked about the topic last week. “I think that’s the biggest thing.

The Sooners welcomed 13 new transfers via the portal during the offseason and bid farewell to xx other players.

It’s a different world from five years ago when high school players early enrolling in the spring session was the biggest roster movement.

During a media session with new players earlier this spring, several of the new transfers were asked the same question: How much of an impact was Venables in their decision to come to Norman?

“He’s just real,” said Bauer Sharp, a tight end from Southeastern Louisiana. “He’s not going to fake anything. He’s going to be the same person as he is with anybody on the team.”

Added running back Sam Franklin from Tennessee-Martin: “It’s really his vision for his program and what he has to bring to the table. Oklahoma is Oklahoma at the end of the day.”

Geirean Hatchett arrived from Washington with eyes on helping on the Sooners’ offensive line.

“He was a no-nonsense guy that I could get an answer from and know that it was true,” Hatchett said. “I just loved his energy, loved his enthusiasm about everything. When I was talking to him, I could tell that he was telling the truth.”
