Lakers’ LeBron James Praises ‘Generational Talent’ Zion Williamson: ‘He’s a

Zion Williamson had himself a game in Tuesday’s Play-In Tournament loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, putting up 40 points, 11 rebounds and five assists before leaving the game late in the fourth quarter due to a left leg injury.

After the contest, LeBron James gave Williamson his flowers.

“He’s gonna be great for a long time,” he told reporters. “Obviously he had a slow start to the season this year but he’s a generational talent. He going to continue to get better, and tonight was just a small microcosm of how great he can be. His ability to get downhill, finish vs. smalls, finish vs. bigs—taller guys, shorter guys, it doesn’t matter—and one thing about him is that he’s not afraid to compete. That’s a great thing. He’s a star.”

When Williamson left the game with 3:13 remaining in the fourth, the game was tied at 95 apiece. But the Lakes outscored the New Orleans Pelicans 15-11 from there, sealing the victory. It’s possible the outcome would have been far different if Williamson remained in the game.

Regardless, the Pelicans will now have a second chance in the Play-In Tournament to reach the postseason, this time facing either the Sacramento Kings or Golden State Warriors with the No. 8 seed on the line. If Williamson is unable to go, the team’s chances of advancing grow much slimmer.
