Brown: McLaren not ‘destabilised’ like rival F1 teams

McLaren CEO Zak Brown has been left content with his squad’s position moving forward, insisting the team has not been “destabilised” like some of his rivals.

The Woking-based squad has both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri tied to multi-year contracts and recently announced an engine partnership extension with Mercedes.

As a result, it has little part to play in the ongoing silly season which kicked off in February when Lewis Hamilton announced his decision to join Ferrari for 2025.

With Nico Hulkenberg confirming he will join Stake next year, rumours have also swirled around Adrian Newey’s potential exit from the head of the Red Bull design department.

Brown, who also penned a new long-term deal to continue as McLaren CEO, outlined his desire to continue stability within the organisation.

“We’re trying to play a part in the silly season – but we’re just not part of it!” Brown joked to media including RacingNews365.

“I think one of the things that I’m trying to do is bring stability, visibility and longevity to all of our racing team.”

McLaren suffered a loss earlier this year when it parted ways with David Sanchez, just three months after he took on the role of technical director of car concept of performance.

While it is now searching for his replacement, Brown is content with McLaren’s situation regarding its future.

“We’re in a great position,” he asserted “The Formula 1 team, we know who our drivers are, we know our team principal.

“Everything’s running according to plan we have our new technology in, we’ve got great sponsors.

“So I think at a time where you’ve got some teams destabilised, not sure who’s going to drive [where], engine changes and things of that nature, I think we’re pretty strong position looking forward.

“We just want to keep our head down and get on with it.”
