‘They Wanted Me to Be an Accomplice to My Son’s Murder’: Concerned Father

Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn, which was initially scheduled to take place on October 8th Saturday, was canceled after Conor Benn tested positive for clomifene. To make the fight happen, Chris Eubank Jr. had to boil down to 157lbs. That Eubank Jr. came down to 157lbs, 3lbs below the middleweight, worried his father Chris Eubank Sr.

Chris Eubank Sr. in a recent statement condemned the entire process, calling it an attempt to murder his 33-year-old son in the ring. In addition, he has accused the event organizers of paying him to be an accomplice to his son’s murder at the O2 Arena on October 8th.

“That’s not strong. That’s very polite for anyone who would attempt to murder my boy. If you’re 33-year-old, you can’t do what you used to do in your mid-twenties, which is to lose weight and be able to handle the loss of that weight. To take a man down 3lbs beneath the middleweight limit, which is 160lbs, to have him boil down to 157lbs is literally attempted murder,” he said.

Having set the tone, Eubank Sr. claimed that he was asked to be at his son’s corner and to be an accomplice to it. Coming down to 157lbs was dangerous. To better understand what he meant, Eubank Sr. even urged to talk to the likes of Watson, Lewis, and Tyson.

Eubank Sr. earlier spoke about how brain injuries occurred in boxing. He addressed his anger by saying, “They asked me to be at my son’s corner. They were trying to pay me to be at my son’s corner. They wanted me to be an accomplice to my son’s murder. Now if you think that’s strong, you need to talk to Michael Watson, Gerald McClellan, you need to speak to Mike Tyson, to Lennox Lewis. Then you will understand the magnitude of this outrage.”

Even though fighting at 157lbs was dangerous, according to Eubank Sr., Eubank Jr. would not listen to him. On being asked if he felt relieved when the cancellation was made public, he expressed that “relieved” was an insult.
