Novak Djokovic was very clear about Rafael Nadal and the French Open: “Chances to beat Rafael Nadal at the Roland Garros? If it weren’t possible, I wouldn’t play tennis!” And this was in fact the surprising answer given by Novak Djokovic at the press conference at the ATP 500 in Dubai.

The Serbian opened up after the defeat against the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals, taking stock of what his next commitments could be within the Tour. The Serbian champion once again expressed himself on the opportunity to participate in the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami.

He explained: “I’m still waiting for news from America. If I don’t play there, I guess I’ll already compete on clay. Monte Carlo would probably be the next tournament. If so, I’ll take a break and prepare. Clay is the most challenging surface, it takes more time than any other court to prepare.

The year is long, I started in the best way, winning many matches in a row, and above all the Australian Open, which was the priority in this part of the year. Of course any other tournament victory is a joy. I will always do my best to play my best tennis in every tournament.

I’ve enjoyed playing in Dubai over the years and will keep coming back, as it’s definitely a place I enjoy.”

Novak Djokovic expressed on Rafael Nadal

Djokovic also talked about Rafa’s exit from the top 10: “He has incredible consistency.

He’s been well known for this over the years. I have total respect for him. Just being in the top 10 for almost 20 years it’s really amazing. He manages to have quality and consistency in tennis throughout the year, playing well on all surfaces.

Also he had several injuries that took him off the tour and sometimes even for almost six months, but he still managed to stay on top. Chapeau for that.”
