Pierre Gasly to have race-winning AlphaTauri put on public display at F1

The AlphaTauri AT01 driven by Pierre Gasly for his maiden Formula 1 victory at Monza in 2020 is going to be put on display at the F1 Exhibition in Madrid.

The car will be shown in the F1 Exhibition’s ‘Design Lab’ room when it officially opens in Spain next week, with Gasly having upset the odds while he was at AlphaTauri to take a stunning win in Italy – which was only the second one for his team, with the Faenza-based constructor having previously won at Monza in 2008 with Sebastian Vettel when they were known as Toro Rosso.

Gasly won a race-long duel with then-McLaren driver Carlos Sainz in what turned into a battle among potential first-time winners in Formula 1, and the chassis that powered the Frenchman to victory will now be made available for the viewing public to see.

“There is nothing better than being called a Formula 1 race winner. I would say in my life, this is probably what has sounded the best out of everything. It was an incredible moment,” Gasly said to the Formula 1 Exhibition team.

“During the race, once I saw how things were shaping up, I knew ‘okay, this is my moment. This is my time to shine.’ There’s no way I’m letting that opportunity slip away from my hands.

“I think we had 25 laps in the lead. They were long, but I must say I enjoyed every single lap. Being in control of that race was the best feeling I have experienced in Formula 1.”

The full F1 Exhibition opens at IFEMA Madrid on Friday 24 March, with a whole host of items set to be on show in seven different rooms, which the exhibition says is “specially commissioned for the show and produced in partnership with award-winning curators, artists, and filmmakers, offering a unique perspective on the extraordinary story of Formula 1.”

At his new team, Gasly debuted for Alpine with a strong drive through the field in Bahrain, working his way up from the back of the field to finish ninth, after leaving AlphaTauri at the end of 2022.
