Ann Arbor Skyline’s Harper Murray is still winning awards for her high school career even though she’s well on her way to college.

Murray, the 2022 Michigan Miss Volleyball winner and the crown jewel of the top recruiting class in the nation, headed to Nebraska, was named the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-2 outside hitter collected 2,425 kills, 1,423 digs, 362 aces and 130 blocks in her four seasons at Skyline. The Gatorade National Player of the Year was routinely double-teamed and still became one of the most prolific players in the state’s history.

“She learned this year how to be a leader,” Skyline coach Chris Christian said in November. “She had everything else, her skills were all there. What I wanted her to get out of this year is to be that leader I knew she could be. And it’s something she did amazingly the last half of the season, getting her teammates fired up after a timeout, and that’s something new she can take on to Nebraska.”

Murray was also the Detroit Sports Awards Volleyball Player of the Year and was anointed by USA TODAY among some two dozen other state winners across the country.

She will be a freshman at Nebraska this upcoming season, wearing No. 27 in honor of her late father, who died of lung cancer when she was 6.
