NASCAR loses an iconic venue from 2024 schedule

Road America is reportedly set to lose its NASCAR Xfinity Series race date after the 2023 season, one year after losing its Cup Series race date.

Road America hosted its first NASCAR race back in the 1956 Cup Series season, though it did not return to the schedule until 2010 when it was added to the Xfinity Series schedule after the series stopped travelling to the Milwaukee Mile.

It became a fixture on the Xfinity Series calendar and was even brought back to the Cup Series schedule for the first time in 65 years back in 2021.

Despite the popularity of the event, the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) natural terrain road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin only lasted two years on the Cup Series schedule.

It was replaced by the new Chicago Street Course in 2023. However, Road America remained on the Xfinity Series schedule, even though the Xfinity Series also raced on the streets of the Windy City for the first time.

But in 2024, Road America will reportedly not host any NASCAR races.

This will end a 14-year run for the track on the Xfinity Series schedule, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a run which saw 14 different winners.

By no means does this mean that Road America won’t return to the Xfinity Series or even the Cup Series calendar at some point in the future, however. A replacement venue has not yet been announced for the Xfinity Series next year.

The other road courses on the Xfinity Series schedule include Circuit of the Americas, Portland International Raceway, Sonoma Raceway, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Watkins Glen International, and the Charlote Motor Speedway Roval. The Cup Series races at all of those venues except for Portland. Charlotte hosts playoff races for both series.

The schedules for the 2024 Cup Series and Xfinity Series seasons have not yet been formally announced, but that is set to change within the next few weeks as more and more tracks begin to confirm their race dates for next year.
