Wilson expressed candidly why she felt that the ‘superteam’ tag was overdoing it. And how hard the team had worked to bag the silverware for the second time in a row. Her answer gave her fans a glimpse of what goes into making a winning WNBA team and had the audiences applauding Wilson’s dedicated work.

Wilson took the opportunity to recall the grind that she did with the Aces: “I remember my rookie year, we didn’t make it to the playoffs. We were trying to grind out wins and form a fanbase.” Wilson added: “We would have a meeting we were like, ‘What are we doing? Where do we want to go with this? How do we win?’ Like we were questioning how to win and it just took us all being, like all right, get in the gym and we’re going to work our hardest like no one’s going to outwork us.”

She shed light on the fact that “we just didn’t go and pick everybody and was like make it work. Like this was something like we were building and obviously we just got great additions.” And these were the reasons why she felt odd when “they kept calling us the superteam.”

The most vital players for the Aces this season were Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray. While Wilson was the numero uno pick in the 2018 WNBA draft, Plum was also selected as the number one pick by the San Antonio Stars, the team that went on to become the Aces. Notably, their shooting guard Jackie Young was also the top pick during the 2019 draft and was taken by the Aces. Similarly, their point guard Chelsea had inked a deal with the Aces in 2021. Thus, the team that won the silverware had been in formation for a long time and was trying to figure things out for them.

The first two season of the Aces after their relocation to the Las Vegas were average. The team occupied the 9th position in the conference during the 2018 season, whereas during the subsequent one, the team bettered its chances and was posited at the fourth position.
