In a social media post Thursday night the Thunderbirds, the group that runs the WM Phoenix Open, announced refund information for fans who were denied entrance on Saturday.

Those fans can request a refund by emailing orders@wmphoenixopen.com.

“A dedicated team will be available to respond to inquiries and answer any questions,” the statement read.

With heavy rain turning many grass-covered portions of TPC Scottsdale into mud pits, fans crowded on some of the course’s walkways, primarily inside the main entrance off Hayden Road. That crowding prompted organizers to close entry to the course on Saturday afternoon, leaving ticketed fans unable to gain entry.

The incident was among a slew of issues for which the Thunderbirds were criticized in the aftermath of the PGA Tour event. The tournament was filled with displays of heavy intoxication, leading to 54 arrests over the course of the week — up from 0 in 2022 and 18 in 2023. Meanwhile, multiple golfers were shown on video yelling at fans, leading some players to speculate that they might not return in 2025 if fan behavior is not reined in.

“We are aware that changes need to be made and we will spend the upcoming months identifying those areas where change is necessary,” the Thunderbirds’ statement read. “Not just for Friday and Saturday, but for the entire week.

“The Thunderbirds are motivated and constantly looking to make the WM Phoenix Open experience better, ensuring the future success of this tournament for the fans and our community for years to come.”
