Who won the boxing last night? Richardson Hitchins vs. Gustavo Daniel Lemos

Richardson Hitchins is a step closer to a world title shot at super lightweight with a close unanimous decision win over Gustavo Daniel Lemos. 

The contest saw two fighters with contrasting game plans go head-to-head in Las Vegas. Hitchins opted to use his jab to keep his opponent at a safe distance whilst looking for any openings to land power punches. 

Lemos meanwhile was eager to make this dogfight and from the opening bell came out swinging. A number of big right hands from the Argentinian rocked Hitchins throughout the 12 round contest with the American frequently having to clinch onto Lemos to nullify his attacks. 

But while Lemos continued with his aggressive approach, Hitchins stayed disciplined and saw out the contest on the judges’ scorecards with two awarding a 115-113 win to Hitchins, whilst one judge controversially scored the bout 117-111 to the New York fighter following a fight where it was difficult to separate to the two competitors. 

Also in action on Saturday’s card was exciting super middleweight Diego Pacheco who maintained his unbeaten record, and a new world champion was crowned in the form of Skye Nicolson who became the WBC women’s featherweight champion.
