Nebraska’s Lindsay Krause has new perspective on game

Just like that, it’s senior year for Nebraska volleyball’s Lindsay Krause.

And there’s unfinished business for the Omaha Skutt graduate after two injuries limited her to 14 matches last season.

First, it was a shoulder injury sustained in a hit-and-run car accident. Then it was a severe ankle injury suffered during practice. She didn’t play in a match after Oct. 14.

At times last season, Krause was playing so well that she may have been on pace for an All-American season.

This winter, Krause was able to play during the Huskers’ beach volleyball season, and now is back on the indoor court for spring practice.

“I’m pretty much all the way there,” Krause said. “I’m feeling really good. My vertical is still a work in progress. It’s coming back, and getting higher every week.”

Krause is focused on having a great final college season.

“I talked a lot with my coaches going into this spring season about how I think it has really set in for me that it’s my senior year and how excited I am to go into it knowing that it’s my season of last,” Krause said.

The injuries made her appreciate when she’s able to play.

“Having to go through that injury and sitting out so much was really eye-opening for me and made me realize how much I can take it in and really enjoy and appreciate where I’m at,” she said. “I come to practice really happy to be here and excited to do everything. I think it really helped me reassess where I was at and understand my feelings for the game.”

Reilly sisters could face off

It will be another year when sisters will play against each other as Raegen Reilly plans to transfer to Illinois. She’s the older sister of Nebraska All-American setter Bergen Reilly and was the starting setter for South Dakota State last season.

Last season, Nebraska’s Ally Batenhorst and Harper Murray each played against their sisters.

Illinois and Nebraska are scheduled to play twice.

Coaches get their wish

Teams will get five additional days of official practice in August, the NCAA announced last week. College volleyball coaches have long complained about how other sports get more time to be in practice with the players before the season begins.

Staff change

Brian Magbitang left the Nebraska staff during the offseason to return to an on-the-court coaching role as an assistant coach at UNLV.

He had been Nebraska’s video and scouting coordinator for the past four seasons. He was previously an assistant coach at Oral Roberts and Wichita State.
