Regis Prograis Talks Sparring With Nate Diaz on a Full Stomach

Regis Prograis discussed his impromptu sparring session with Nate Diaz on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Prograis admitted,
“Of course, I definitely knew who he was,” acknowledging the MMA fighter’s popularity and skillset.

The sparring session, as described by Prograis, was far from a traditional boxing match. Prograis, having just eaten a substantial shrimp pasta meal, felt full and ill-prepared for the rigorous encounter. Recalling the unexpected turn of events, Prograis admitted, “I don’t even know why I was sparring him in the first place, I had just eaten… My stomach was FULL!”

The sparring session’s intensity surprised both participants, rapidly evolving into an all-out brawl instead of a controlled boxing match. Prograis remarked that they “literally just fought for five to six rounds,” with Diaz displaying his prowess in throwing punches. Notably, comparing Diaz to other MMA fighters he had sparred with, Prograis observed that, unlike others, “he knows what to do with his hands.


Diaz approached Prograis in the gym, seizing the opportunity after Nate’s intended sparring partner failed to show up. Prograis agreed to the session, unaware of the remarkable display of endurance that would follow.

After Nate Diaz challenged Jake Paul to extend their bout from 8 rounds to 10 rounds, Paul responded on Twitter and accepted the challenge, expressing his intention to test Diaz’s cardio. Paul declared, “Nate Diaz wants 10 rounds. I guess he has good cardio. Ok Nathan, 10 rounds it is.”

Contrarily, Diaz had a change of heart shortly after proposing the alteration. He tweeted that he was satisfied with competing in an 8-round bout and declined the adjustment, confidently stating, “I’m good wit 8.”
