Man Utd takeover LIVE: Sheikh Jassim’s boost in Ratcliffe battle, share price

Ten Hag’s next Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes is loved by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and it is not only because of the Portuguese star’s immense skillset.

Fernandes is a virtual ever-present for the Red Devils.

He played more first-team minutes than any other footballer in Europe last season, starting in 58 matches across all competitions for Ten Hag’s side – with his stamina and engine unmatched.

This explains United’s interest in signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat – the Moroccan international who previously played under Ten Hag at FC Utrecht.

United have opened talks over a possible deal for the midfielder this summer to bolster their ranks.

Ratcliffe criticised ‘dumb’ transfer

By Daniel Orme

Sir Jim Ratcliffe tore into Manchester United for ‘losing the plot’ and signing Fred as the Brazilian edges towards the exit door.

He joined the club in the summer of 2018 as the Red Devils splashed £52m to sign him from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Fred has gone on to make 213 appearances for United since but has never hit the heights expected of him.

He endured a rotten debut campaign at Old Trafford, whilst he failed to consistently impress under Erik ten Hag – despite appearing in 56 matches in all competitions.

As a result, he has been linked with a move away from United this summer and has just a year left on his contract.

Ten Hag fell out with Onana at Ajax

Erik ten Hag’s relationship with Andre Onana turned sour in their closing weeks together at Ajax but the boss has driven Manchester United’s pursuit of the goalkeeper.

Last week, United saw an £38.5million bid knocked back for Onana, who starred for the Nerazzurri on their run to the Champions League final.

It is believed that the Milanese giants will be prepared to sell for a fee, including add-ons, totalling £45million – which should be reached imminently.

United are in the market to sign two new goalkeepers this summer as Ten Hag aims to revamp the department at the club.

Dean Henderson is likely to join Nottingham Forest in a deal worth up to £30million while David de Gea confirmed his exit from Old Trafford on Saturday and Jack Butland has joined Rangers.
