Local students named National Collegiate Rugby Scholastic All-American

Baldwin Wallace University: Brittany Webb from Medina and Molly Cancian from Brunswick, were among seven Baldwin Wallace Women’s Rugby student athletes selected as a National Collegiate Rugby 2022-23 Scholastic All-American. The annual program recognizes high-performing student athletes in college rugby across the nation. To qualify as an NCR Scholastic All-American, student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher for the academic year and be rostered 50% of the Fall 15′s varsity matches or rostered 50% of the varsity Spring 7′s tournaments. Webb, majoring in Early childhood education is part of the selective group of Scholastic All-Americans representing approximately 1 out of 20 student athletes competing in college rugby. The BW Men’s Rugby team have 8 student athletes earning this honor.

Of the BW Scholastic All-Americans, Cancian is a repeat selection. In total 760 NCR student athletes from men’s and women’s teams earned Scholastic All-American honors with 148 colleges represented. BW Women’s Rugby student athlete, Canican was one of 123 maintaining a 4.0 GPA for the full academic year. Baldwin Wallace Women’s Rugby competes in the Ohio Valley Women’s Collegiate Rugby Conference (OVWCRC). The team finished as conference champions in the Fall 2022 15′s Season.

University of Maryland Global Campus: Carlos Torres of Medina was named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.

Emporia State University: Colin Sapara graduated from Emporia State University in May. Sapara of Medina, graduated with a Master of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, & Recreation.
